Community Policy Statement

Lafarge and its employees are committed to giving back to the communities where we live and operate.  We do this through countless local partnerships and some strategic national partnerships with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and United Way.

Lafarge operates throughout the U.S. and Canada, servicing many communities and customers in different locations. As a building materials supplier, we understand the diverse needs of our communities. It is our goal as a company to make a positive impact on the communities where we operate through active participation in the community.  This participation goes beyond just saying that we care. In addition to the long-term and far-reaching objectives of our partnerships with United Way  and Habitat for Humanity in the U.S. and Canada, we give back to our communties in a variety of ways that include financial donations to certified 501(c)(3) organizations, in-kind material donations and employee-driven volunteer projects. The case studies featured in this section are just a fraction of the hundreds of community projects Lafarge initiates across our communities.

Lafarge Riverfest The celebration of shared experiences is one of the things that strengthens communities. In Alpena, Mich., for instance, the community sets aside two days a year for Riverfest, a celebration of its cultural heritage on the banks of the Thunder Bay River. Lafarge is proud to share this history with the people of Alpena and we show our support for this important community tradition by serving as the title sponsor of Riverfest every year.

Open House at Lafarge Communication is key to any good relationship, and that goes for neighbors too. As a fixture in hundreds of communities in the United States and Canada, Lafarge realizes the importance of sharing information about our operations with those who live and work near us. Whether it’s a barbeque for the adults or games for the kids, Lafarge’s open houses are opportunities for us to develop relationships with our neighbors in the community.

Participation with United Way in Canada United Way – Centraides has provided support and assistance to 125 communities in Canada, and Lafarge has played an integral part.

Participation with United Way in the US In Denver, Colorado, a priest, two ministers and a rabbi made a profound impact on American society. Lafarge helps keep their legacy alive.

Lafarge to the Rescue Police and fire departments answer calls for help in our hometowns every day. When Fire Chief Rob Prior called the Lafarge cement plant in Ravena, N.Y., asking for help, Lafarge came to his rescue with a donation of materials for a new firehouse.
